On going progress, hopefully!!!
|
This site is based around my Morris mini, or whats left of it! I started out on the normal path of bigger and bigger engines up rate all the other bits and bobs etc, etc...... This was until the last engine went in. This was the abligatrie 1380cc motor with all the trimmings to boot. All was well till the London2Brighton run in 2001 when the gearbox, and my patiance gave up. That was it never again!
The trouble is the A series is old techonolgy and no matter how much money (and time) you spend on it, it just doesn't last long or make the same power as a modern engine, the answer? Well that came in the form of a 1.6 Honda 16V Vtec engine. 160BHP as standard and the Honda build quality to go with it.
If you see somthing you dont agree with or think it could be done better drop me a line
The only remaing problem was to get the two things to go together. This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, read on....

At last an update, sorry its tacken so long.
A very big thanks to all you who have singed in and looked at site as well as a big thanks to MiniWolrd for a lug in the December issue. The car has come on a long way. Its back from beoing painted, Neon Orange!!!! and is redy for the final push to get it all back together. The frame has been remade again and is better than ever . The engine sits flatter and straighter than before. The cabin has had the rear seats removed and a new floor put in. There is now a cage wellded in to the shell with a lot of extra bracing. The dash needs a finnal coat of flowcoat then thats finished. The wiring is almost done, the order for all the fuel, brake lines has been made and the break bias valve should be here sonn. I will be binning the rear subframe and replacing it with a beame axle of my own design.
I think thats about all for now. Watch this space for a new look site and hopefully quick progres on the car. Till next time.

Well its been busy, the front is now mounted for good and seems to be in the right place (thenks to the help of my freinds) The engine is once more in the car and seems to need to drop even further on the right side to align the shafts properly, no quite sure wat whent wrong there! Good news is the rad is now in and does fit under the front, its a VW Polo rad and seems to be larger than the one on the CRX so should do nice. The rack has been turned even further round to allow the engine to fit better and I've made a UJ to allow me to steer!!!
I'll keep you posted.

I'm getting there at last!!!!
The front end is now all but finished and the inside is done except for a few mounting plates. All the baulkhead and the front sides of the baulkhead have now been replaced or repaired as needed and the box for the inlet is done. A few freinds are round tommorow to help aligne the front around the engine and then comes the hard part of getting the final engine mounts and the alternater to fit in. Whatch this space to find out how!!!!

Spent another full day on the car, the box is now in fully and seem welded up. The rear cinner sills have been removed and have found that they were as rotten as a pear, so out they come. All the front end except for the wing is now finished and the frame is now bolted to the baulkhead.
More to come.

Brought the car over to house from the garage (as mine doesnt have power) and spent the hole weekend welding! The front has now been cut off the car and swings nicely on a pair of home made hinges, when the wings are replaced this will be the flip front. Also the first part of the baulkhead box has been put in along with strengthening peices inside the car. Out came the grinder once more and the rear seat shelf and pockets are now in the bin, this alows a much better access to the back and the cage. Hopefully should have the baulkhead finished this week and the engine back in place with the new wings covering it all.
4/1/02 Yes 2002!!!
Well now that the mini shop is open again all the parts have been ordered and should be here tommorow so that means that Monday is the end of the old rustie front. Bring on the new metal. The rear disk brake convetion is now compleate so the subframe can go back on and the car moved!

Well here goes, as this is the first time I've posted on the site there are a few things that need to be brought up to speed.
The car was taken off the road at the end of May after the London2Brighton and the engine was purchased shortly after. The front end got attacked with a grinder and all the inner wing and a large section of the baulkhead have been removed to get the beast in.
The frame was made around the engine once the position was set for sure. and I am now at the point where it all need to be plated to make up for the removed parts of steel.
After stripping the shell of paint while (waiting for the welding) I have found that the front wings are a bit worse for where and need to be replaced, as such I will be cutting the whole front off and rebuilding it as a flip front with romoveable bonnet.
The sarga continues.
